You can’t go wrong with a Jake-made Birdsong bass! Here is a quick video posted to Facebook of the first of the new batch (and Birdsong’s next chapter), a beautiful hand crafted walnut Corto2: https://www.facebook.com/61553138683715/videos/345968274943938

I (Scott B.) am still building, in addition to running Birdsong; but I’ve stepped back from production-level work. Small batches of my Sport mini-basses (guitar scale length) and a few guitars I’ve wanted to create for a long time are happening this year. The super fancy D’AQUILA guitars, my side passion, now become a focus. You can keep up with that stuff, as well as my books and music (more of those in process too) at www.sbeckwith.com.
It’s been an amazing week of weather here in south-central Texas. I took a beautiful drive through the Hill Country to the Birdsong nest and things are coming together great. The fifth workshop in the woods in Birdsong’s history is rocking, and the little-basses-that-could (and DID, and DO, and will continue TO) look right at home beside the great guitars coming together over there.
I’ve been in the little green workshop finishing up this chapter with five Birdsong basses, four of which are pictured here almost done - a mesquite 5-string, wild walnut and quilted maple-topped Sports (last of the “Birdsong” versions), and a special-order “Aged nicotine bar bass” 2-pickup PB… with final shaping on a scrolled Bliss6 in the workshop. These are all spoken for, but do contact me with any questions. There are also two 20th Anniversary bass bodies (you’ll see them when it’s time) I’m doing some special “Scott” work to, and then, like much else, I’m handing those off to Jake.
There’s a new ABOUT US page, which will be added to as we go, and for build pictures and workshop shots visit www.goedeguitars.com/birdsongs-in-progress-1
I’ll be back in a few weeks with another full report right here. All is well - really well, actually! Sometimes that requires some change. We’re so conditioned to fear that; I prefer to see life as a long road of chapters, and to be real about it when it’s time. It really, truly can be for the best, my friends! You just have to trust in the process and have confidence in yourself to navigate it. Plus not get TOO wrapped up in your roles when it’s time for them to evolve too. I’m so grateful for the new chapter. Sometimes that’s how it all comes together, some dis-assembly required.
Love and peace,
